overdue library books.
today I was thinking.
it's time i put myself out there and do something to really drive the girls wild.
so I decided to go to the Somersworth Public Library and get myself a library card. Actually the real reason is because there is a book I have been wanting to read and didnt want to have to spend the money to buy it.
this is the first time i have been in this library since i was in 4th grade. nothing has changed, including the librarians.
me: i need to get a library card.
librarian 1: i need your license.
librarian 2: youre mike gagne, arent you?
me: (nervous smile) i am.
librarian 2: youre alot taller than you used to be.
me: (nervous laughter) yeah.
librarian 2: you guys live in one of those nice houses on Stackpole Rd right?
me: (officially uncomfortable) not in 7 years.
librarian 1: you already have a card and you havent used it in 13 years. you have $7 in late fees from books you took out in 1993.
[a bunch of books on world war II and d-day that I most likely used for a project and "Bo Knows Bo": the autobiography of Bo Jackson.]
well, i paid my $7 late fee, got my book, assured them i would be more responsible this time around and got the heck out of there.
libraries are right up there with funeral parlors and nursing homes.

haha. thats awesome. i wonder if i would recognize any of the librarians.
librarys, like hospitals and cafeterias, have a unique smell.
recognizing is one thing, but remembering names and addresses is another.
That's really kinda stalkerish.
I always feel incredibly guilty in those "you've still got overdue fees from such and such a time" situations, like I've just been caught for commiting some heinous crime...but then, my conscience beats me up over jaywalking.
